TRRAP

Molecular characteristics

TRRAP is essential to the activity and localization of most histone acetyltransferases (HATs). HATs are activator of the transcription process, thus playing a major role in regulation of gene expression in cells. Dysregulation of this process has been associated with severe neurodevelopmental disorders. TRRAP affects neuronal function and ion transport. TRRAP is important in the development of embryos. Distinct variants in TRRAP were identified in individuals whose parents don’t carry the mutations (de novo).
