Management

Treatment is symptomatic including muscle relaxants and anti-spasticity medication such as baclofen if pyramidal symptoms are predominant and produce a handicap. Functional rehabilitation is equally or even more important than medical treatment, as physiotherapy can help reduce contractures, pain and improve stability, reducing the risks of falls. Furthermore, occupational therapy and assistive devices (orthopaedic shoes, cane, etc) help patients retain autonomy.
